rom behind the wheel of an obscenely muscled Dodge pickup, Vincent Edward "Bo" Jackson is reminiscing about the time he took down a 300-pound bear from point-blank range with a .45-caliber pistol. This was a decade ago in Alaska, a few years after Bo retired from organized sports and a few days before the Princess of Wales died in a car crash, and if you're wondering whether Bo was scared, hell no, Bo was not scared. Not even when that bear got so close Bo and his hunting companion could see the hairs bolt upright like pine needles on the back of its neck.

Tigercatch - AuburnSports.com (The Bunker)
Firing Shula has turned out to be a good thing for Auburn. This entire coaching search reeks of the arrogance that is typical for Alabama. Most schools would have drawn up a realistic list of coaches that would come to Alabama, and had an agreement pretty much worked out between the agent of the coach and the representatives of the university. But once again, Alabama has done their typical thing and let their arrogance blind them to who they really are.

If you ever needed proof that summer is indeed the silly season for college sports, watching the newspapers in Alabama and a few points north over the last few would have settled your mind. After weeks of rumor and speculation, and shortly following a post of mine right here at VP, Pete Thamel of the New York Times rushed in his story on...

Summer is the “silly season” for college football fans. With little to no actual news coming from a practice field or stadium, fans boil in their own juices during the long summer months, and anticipation for the upcoming season is often overwhelmed by the nursing of old grudges and festering of endless theorizing upon the evils of rival teams. This year, the ongoing volleys of accusations among followers of Auburn University (a faction in which I am counted) and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa have been spiced up with a new player on the scene: The New York Times.

ESPN was there. So were NFL and former Auburn University stars Ronnie Brown, Jason Campbell, Carlos Rogers and Marcus Washington. Aubie was there. The pep band. Al Borges and his family. And, in case you missed it, Kentucky was there, too.
But where were you?

Steve Spurrier has always been amused with the hype over recruiting.
"The year we got Brock Berlin and all those guys, everybody said we had the No. 1 class in the country," Spurrier said of his next-to-last recruiting class at Florida. "Four years later, hardly any of them were still there.

In the wake of Auburn’s 28-18 defeat of Alabama Nov. 19, Alabama fans have struggled with the question: Was the 9-2 2005 regular season a success, or not?

This Southeastern Conference business is tough stuff.
Brandon Cox, Auburn's first-year starter at quarterback, is far too bright to say he has it licked. What he will say is that he's getting there.

ATTALLA, Ala. - Running back Cadillac Williams hobbled into the Bucs locker room a few weeks ago wearing a plastic boot to immobilize his injured left foot. Highly paid medical experts continue to fret over the best course of action, but the fine folks in this little country town know exactly what that foot needs.
Some duct tape.

I debated on whether to post this op-ed on WDT, because a year ago, I would have been annoyed at it. Now, it just seems comical, but you have to admire his passion. In a state where Auburn fans are the "obsessed ones", actions speak louder than words.
...thanks to JKilgo for the find, but I'm still not sure why you were reading the Crimson and White. :)
